Only conclusion is road marathon's are just brutal and punishing for me...this was number three for me in last 12 months and I think I have my fill of them.  That said I am glad that I did it overall.  Had smashed big toe in unnamed domestic incident/accident 6 days ago that left it bruised and swollen but not broken.  This ended up not really being an issue as I borrowed my brother's shoes which were a half size bigger and worked out great.

First half in 1:51  with times between 8:11 and 8:40.  Wanted to have smooth pacing with gas in tank for second half.  Smooth but no gas.  Second half had lots of 9's  and one 11:30(potty stop at mile 15 that just plain took awhile).

Body just kind of shuts down mile 21 or 22 and the rest is on willpower, which is cool for sure and somewhat addicting but....I think I am ready to switch more full time to the trail/adventure running.  Overall think that if it is on the road the half may be it...

Oreo had a great race.  Smoked the first 15 then his stomach blew up and he ended up helping a damsel in distress run her last 6 or so after her blow up...cool cat.

 Good times

Yo G' - great run out there! You are a STuD man. Sausage toe and all. 3 marathons in 12 months iS A little insane, but that's why they call you: Varer! .. remember your Danish...

great race, gdoc. i like the "running on willpower is addicting" statement. i totally agree. it's always tough, but it's always worth it. nice job!

I would never run 3 marathons a year---1 is my new limit (2 was even too much). I agree with ALL you said, those last miles are sheer willpower (and the desire to just be done with it) AND trail running, in general, is far less brutal on the body.

Nicely done, sorry about the toe. I ran with a hamburger toe once, NOT FUN!

SO, what is next on the agenda? I like to ask that the next day, make my name synonymous with many swear words, I am sure. ;o)

allie...thanks for the props

Kelli...strangely enough I am signed up for Squaw Peak 50 in 2 weeks...we will see if I do it with the snow, change in course and post marathon cadaver legs...otherwise I will do the Skyline Trail Marathon in August.

Oreo...smoke em if you got em

Sausage toe!!!

Nice race. Nothing worse tham a potty stop at a marathon. Ugh! Bad memories.

Nice job G! 3 in 12 is some strong runn'en! I'm with allie, liked the running on will power thing. I hear you on Squaw, thinking maybe we should just kick back some cold ones and doughnuts and watch Oreo tear it up.
